So give us the low down
Name, how long you have been skating, how you got into it etc.
Jonny Long, I’ve been skating near enough 28 years now I think, I don’t really remember how I got into it exactly, all I know is I didn’t really get along with team sports or the people that did them, and that skating was something I fell in love with pretty much straight away.
I would like to say I’d been able to skate through that whole time but for a couple of years I was in a wheelchair and then learning to walk again.
For a fair while then it’s been deep rooted!
Yeah same to be fair, fell out of love with football and then found Skateboarding!
So you’re from Stamford Bridge, which is part of East Yorkshire and just outside York? Hows the scene there?

Jonny FS Rock & Roll
Yeah Stamford has no scene, there’s a couple of crusty spots but really the scene is in York.
The terrain is tough in York, the city is crusty as owt and it’s relatively flat, but I think it makes things a bit more fun? You have got to look at York spots a bit more creatively a lot of the time.
There are some great skaters in York too, a lot who tend to go under the radar a bit.
I see, so I guess you skated York a fair bit then being close to home?you have ventured to Hull a lot too though, I remember you coming through to Skate Rockcity loads like 15 years ago? It’s that how we met?
Yeah I spent most the time skating in York, we’d usually start in mayhem the local store then head round the city hitting up street spots in town and at the uni, as time went on we started to do a bit more travelling around hull, leeds, Sheffield. We started coming through Hull quite frequently to skate rockcity through the winter, I was doing a film making degree at the time and I’d always be bringing some excessive cinema camera to film park clips for test footage. Then before you know it we were off to LA for a few months of skateboarding and filming.

Whats happening with the Vale skate mag?
Haha what’s happening with The Vale? Not sure what I can share right now, but I got some plans for bringing it back to life in a slightly different format.
What I will say is we’re gonna be filming a scene vid through the next year, haven’t fully put everyone on notice yet, and I’ve thrown a bounty out there on a big new gap I’d like someone local to take me up on.
Sounds interesting, looking forward to this new format, for people which may not know do you want to explain what the Vale was at the time?

The Vale was a magazine I set up to cover Yorkshire skateboarding. After not being able to walk for years and then learning to try and skate again, I didn’t feel like I was going to able to skate the way I used to but skateboarding was everything to me, so I decided the best way to be involved was to use my energy to film, photograph and promote the skate scene in Yorkshire.
Interesting concept to focus purely on the Yorkshire region, good to have something close to home! It will be good to see it back with the new ideas!
Right let’s wrap things up there cheers for doing this man!
Yeah that was the idea, champion the local area mainly.
No problem thanks for asking, take it easy!
